ShareaholicRecently we discussed about Rockmelt, a web browser that integrates with your facebook and twitter accounts and makes sharing easy, but for those of you who are in pure love with their cute browsers and those who would like to adopt RockMelt only after there are no more bugs left, we have just found something great and interesting.

Sharaholic in action

Shareholic, the simplest way to share something online, might it be an article, or an image or the webpage you are working on with friends on digg, del.icio.us, facebook, friendfeed, Google bookmarks, magnolia, mixx, reddit, stumbleupon, tumblr, twitter and many more websites.

Its an add-on that creates a small shareaholic button either on your navigation menu or the address bar and every time you click it, it displays an organized menu which lets you choose the services to share upon. You can customize the menu either to just display your customized websites or to change their order. Sharing is simple and clean, the concerned dialog appears and you can now choose to proceed or not

Shareaholic is believed to influence general user activity on diffrent websites making sharing easier which will increase web traffic. It also keeps a track on how many times the web page you’re on has been dugg or saved to del.icio.us.

Share Your Internet – Make Your Own Personal WiFi Hot Spot

Share Your Internet
Gone are those days when bulky net adapter were required to connect your different computers with a single network. Now, if one of your computers(or MAC) is connected with a wired or wireless network and you wish to connect it with other computers wirelessly, here is the solution.

Create an ad-hoc network

Creating and computer to computer network in Windows Vista and 7 is very easy.
Just go to et up a connection or network" and choose "Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network". Now select "Save this network" and now the network is displayed in along with other wifi networks.

Step 1                             Step 2

But there’s a short cut, the next two softwares creates such a network automatically for you, and let you manage the connection as in a real wifi router.

Connectify is a free virtual router available for windows that lets you create Ad-Hoc networks with your system. It enables you to share your network with your fellows over wi-fi and create your own personal hot spot. It can be used to share you home/hostel network with your laptop, gaming console, mobile phone, media player and other computers for free. Connectify is ad supported and hence free to use.
Connectify is also available for android devices.

What we liked.
Though both Connectify and Virtual Router are free to use and have a clean user interface, Connectify might sometime irritate you with random ads while Virtual Router is not ad supported.

RockMelt – Share Your World Around

Its not just another web-browser that claims to be faster and safer, its build for sharing, based on Chromium (the open source project used in Google Chrome). The catch, it integrates your regular cyberspace and social media interactions. RockMelt makes sharing and chatting easier with an optional facebook sidebar on the left hand side of the browser. It integrates with twitter as well. The latest youtube app makes it possible to watch YouTube videos right there.

YouTube App

The address bar has a big share button that lets you share the current web address on your facebook/twitter logins.

The browsers signs into your facebook account every time you start the browser making it easier for you to share things, check status messages of different friends, have a little chit chat and update your own status.

Now what might interest my fellow geeks is the real cool name behind it, Marc Andreessen, yes the founder of Netscape who himself lost the war of browsers but  i think RockMelt might just be the future of web browsing. For now, its just another super fast (thanks to chromium and Google’s V8) web browser meant for facebook and twitter addicts.

Make Stats interesting, present like Hans Rosling

Stats were always boring during a presentation but have you ever heard or watched Hans Rosling, the Swedish statistician and co-founder of the Gapminder which developed the software Trendalyzer (about which we will talk later in this post).

I advice you first watch this video to have an impression on how he talks and what makes him different as a speaker.

Now let us discuss why is he so popular and how can you probably be like him.

  • The structure
He presents shocking things and stats. Shocking stuff is what wakes people up from their deepest sleeps.
Try to look at the surprising things of your data or of your study an collaborate that in your presentation to make it more interesting.
  • Sequence
He starts with discussing himself and his field and discussing various experiences he had during his study of the project, like how he got into this, what people thought if the study initially, how people got wrong in the tests. This is an very effective way because this leads to the audience imagining themselves like how would have they reacted to the situation or what they thought of the topic before this presentation.
  • Discuss
Discuss with people whatever you are talking about, or whatever you are working upon. Tell them the technical aspects of your presentation like when discussing graphs tell them whats on which axis and whats on the other and then play with the axis. Just light up people technically and win their hearts
You might be wondering the software that he is using for his presentations, the slides that were moving in 3dimensions and those beautiful animations. This is the Gapminder software (now with Google as Motion chart ).

This software converts stats and data into movable novel effects that prevents your wok from getting unrecognized.

The Gapminder software can be downloaded from http://www.gapminder.org/desktop.

The desktop version allows you to work offline and make your own graphs and flash based presentations or you can add the Google Gadget (Motion Charts) to your spreadsheet and animate your data with flash.
The Gapminder software allows you to use and customize graphs already available at gapminder.org
Go ahead and make your presentations flowing live.
